New Museum of Contemporary Art
In November of 2007, MF Productions arranged an entire week of festivities for the long-awaited opening of the New Museum’s new location. The dramatic building, designed by architects, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of Tokyo, made history as the first art museum built from the ground up in downtown Manhattan.
The week commenced with an event to honor all of the major donors. The evening began with a cocktail reception at the museum to preview the building. Following cocktails, the guests proceeded via old-fashioned trolleys to a Chinese banquet hall on the Bowery for an authentic taste of downtown New York.
Other highlights included the First Look, sponsored by Calvin Klein. The event was hosted by Francisco Costa, Italo Zuccheli, Julianne Moore, Bart Freundlich, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard and was also attended by Ashley Olsen, Margherita Missoni and Thandie Newton. Throughout the evening, guests were treated to burlesque shows by the notorious Raven O, a regular performer at premiere NYC night spot, The Box. In the evenings following during the events Unmonumental and Bowery Bash, the museum was filled with hundreds of artists, collectors, architectural and design enthusiasts and members of the media.
On Saturday, December 1st, the museum opened its doors to the public. Target sponsored the event and remained open and free of charge for thirty consecutive hours in honor of The New Museum’s 30th anniversary. Over 15,000 guests were in attendance.
